Good Food Principle: Indigenous Foodways
Indigenous food sovereignty safeguards traditional foodways that rely on the health of the land and intergenerational knowledge. As a core theme across FLEdGE, Indigenous foodways reflect what it means to have place-based food systems that are designed by and for Indigenous peoples. Throughout the partnership, several researchers worked with Indigenous communities as they (re)defined their own sustainable food systems in reaction to, and in anticipation of, shifting landscapes resulting from climate change and ongoing colonial interventions. These (re)definitions included policy elements, new and adapted technology and infrastructure, governance considerations, and knowledge sharing opportunities.
