The Alberta and British Columbia Node was co-led by Mary Beckie, from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, and Kent Mullinix, Director of the Institute for Sustainable Food Systems at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Surrey, BC.
Research interests in the Alberta and British Columbia Node included:
- Bioregional food system design and assessment metrics
- Urban-rural linkages through local food procurement
- Leveraging small-parcel farmland to enhance urban food production
- Lady Flower Gardens as a land-based initiative focused on building community, well-being, and social equity through food
- Food access and equity during the COVID-19 pandemic
- Multifunctional land use in predominately agricultural landscapes
