The Northwestern Ontario Node was co-led by Charles Z. Levkoe, Connie Nelson, and Mirella Stroink, all from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay.

Research interests in the Northwestern Ontario Node included:

  • Food policy, with an emphasis on policy gaps and failures as opportunities for learning
  • Food insecurity and access in Northwestern Ontario
  • Regional food distribution, including food co-ops and food hubs in the North
  • Sustainable fisheries and food systems in the Lake Superior Region
  • Developing and implementing community food strategies for public health
  • Food as a lens for reconciliation and confronting settler-colonialism in Northwestern Ontario
