In September 2021, Lori is launching the first Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Food Studies in Canada at George Brown College. This unique program combines a comprehensive food studies curriculum with experience in the culinary arts. Lori has a PhD in Geography from Wilfrid Laurier University, with a research focus on the role of creative public procurement in promoting healthy, just, and sustainable food systems. She has wide-ranging experience in the food sector, as a food policy specialist with the City of Toronto, a non-profit leader, and an academic. Currently, Lori is an advisor to the UNESCO Chair of Food, Biodiversity and Sustainability, the Centre for Studies in Food Security at Ryerson University, and the Toronto Food Policy Council. Areas of expertise: sustainable local food systems, food and cities, food movements, food procurement, community food security.
